How to Fall in Love With Your Braces

Steps

1. Give it time. When you first get your braces they may not be what you expected or wanted. But after a while when your teeth start shifting you will notice how good they look.
2. Don't listen to others. People may not like them or may say something you might not like but just remember...who cares? If you think your braces are hot, they are! Plus, your teeth will be much straighter than theirs.
3. Try to get your braces in the same color that you wear the most. That way, they'll sort of be an accessory to your outfit!
4. Flash your braces whenever you can! Don't be embarrassed.
5. Smile naturally, especially in pictures. Show your teeth if your smile normally shows your teeth. It may initially seem like a good idea to hide your braces with a close-lipped smile, but forced smiles never look as pretty and sincere.

Tips

• Remember that a lot of teenagers have braces!
• Do what the orthodontist tells you to do or you will have them on for longer. For example, if you're supposed to wear rubber bands, then wear them as much as you possibly can. You may also be told not to eat certain things (like corn on the cob, gum, etc); listen, but you may be able to cheat a little.

Warnings

• Do not chew on pencils.
• Don't play with your braces a lot or they might break!
• If you like to eat Hershey Kisses or other candy that is wrapped in foil, be very careful not to get any of the foil in your mouth. The saliva in your mouth combined with the metal wrapped around your teeth and the foil from the candy will cause a tiny electrical shock. This can also occur with some types of fillings. It doesn't hurt, but it is annoying.
• If you have teeth that are not bright white, don't get colors that make your teeth look yellower, like light blues or yellows and oranges. Try light pink, dark green or teal instead.
